On 3 October 2023, the Government of Pakistan announced plans to repatriate “illegal foreigners” who do not leave Pakistan voluntarily and must leave the country by 1 November, after which they will or face deportation. It is estimated that 1.3 million undocumented Afghans presently reside in Pakistan. The pronunciation announcement by Pakistani authorities has led to a significant increase in the number of people returning to Afghanistan, because of fear of arrest and eventual deportation. Reports from across the border indicate that authorities are demolishing unauthorized settlements occupied by unregistered foreigners. The Afghans who are coming back to their country will need immediate need in term of shelter, WASH , Health , MHPSS and livelihood support services.
