| Comments: | On 18 July 2026, Algeria experienced a major wildfire emergency, with 154 forest, vegetation, and agricultural fires recorded within 24 hours across multiple wilayas. While 138 fires were extinguished, 16 remained active. The fires resulted in six confirmed fatalities, the evacuation of more than 100 hospital patients in Seraïdi (Annaba), and preventive evacuations in several communities. Approximately 10,000 people were affected, including around 400 temporarily displaced. The Government of Algeria led the response with Civil Protection, military assets, firefighting aircraft, and emergency services, while the Algerian Red Crescent (ARC) mobilized volunteers to provide first aid, food, drinking water, psychosocial support, and other humanitarian assistance. Response operations continued amid high temperatures, dry vegetation, difficult terrain, and the ongoing risk of fire re-ignition. |
