Drought,Malawi: A slow onset of the rainy season in January 2015 was followed by severe flooding that washed away crops, leaving arable land covered with sand, and leading to widespread crop failure or low yields. In July 2015, the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) report estimated that maize production is reduced by 30 per cent from 2014, and a total of USD 39 million is required to meet the food needs. In mid-September, the IFRC launched an Emergency Appeal.
